AREA INFORMATION
Zittau is the southeasternmost city of Saxony and also ranks among the state''s most attractive cities.
Numerous attractions and memorials bear witness to a rich history. The cultural trail leads you through a number of sights including the marketplace with its impressive town hall, the seven-storey Salzhaus which dates back to 1511, the Baroque fountain, the city museum which occupies a former Franciscan monastery and the "Fleischerbastei" bastion with its floral clock by the Green Ring.
The real jewel of the city is the "Große Zittauer Fastentuch" ("great lenten veil of Zittau") from 1472. It measures 6.8 x 8.2 metres and can be found in the "Museum Kirche zum Heiligen Kreuz". Here you can also admire the "Kleine Zittauer Fastentuch" ("small lenten veil of Zittau") which dates back to 1573.
